Redesign

The RedEye's redesign does make the inside pages look a little better, but doesn't offer any design improvements on the paper's approach to content.

The redesign debuted Monday and was announced on page 3—in typical Gen Y babytalk, of course: "Over the weekend, the RedEye in your hands got a makeover." RedEye appears to be developing an opinion page (on Page 4), in much the same way the Iraqi government is developing a penal system.

The main improvement is that folios are now slimmer and punchier. Friday's cover story, on Walk the Line looked pretty good, as did the cover design. It certainly helps for this paper to be a little less stiff.

Still, there's no permanent place for corrections and there aren't many news teasers on the front. This paper is starting to look a little better, but it should take advantage of the redesign to function better.
